UCSB is dedicated to helping you thrive, with a variety of support outlets and resources designed for your success. We know it can feel tough to ask for help, and navigating the many departments might seem overwhelming—but you’re not alone! Below is a list of the most frequently used resources where you can find guidance and support for your academics and other needs.

L&S Academic Advisors can answer your questions about UCSB degree requirements and university policies, give you career guidance, go over your course schedules, explain the benefits of a selected grading option, explain how to complete a petition, and more. 

UCSB General Catalog: All things academic, including schedules, courses, departments, and policies. Students are expected to be aware and follow the policies of their Catalog year--that is, the Catalog of the year they began at UCSB. 

College of Letters & Science Majors: A list of undergraduate majors offered in the College of Letters & Science and links to the department websites.

GOLD: UCSB's platform to register for courses, complete a progress check, check registration deadlines, and see posted grades.

Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) provides content-specific and fundamental tutoring services free to UCSB students. CLAS also arranges study groups and workshops. In addition, they have consultants who can help you analyze your strengths and limitations as a learner. 

UCSB Library: Lots of books, plenty of places to study late into the night, and librarians who can help you with your research. When you're on campus, go for an in-person self-guided tour, or try the UCSB Library Escape Room to get an online version of the tour. 

UCSB Admissions: Students planning to take courses at another institution while enrolled at UCSB will need to submit their official transcripts to Admissions to receive credit for the coursework.

Office of the Registrar Website: The Office of the Registrar manages the registration system (GOLD), publishes the catalog, keeps the academic calendar, keeps students' academic records, awards diplomas, and does much more. You won't graduate until they say you graduate!

Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) collaborates to promote research-based, equitable teaching and learning across UCSB. The OTL student centers, programs, and activities offer academic and social support to promote student success.

UCSB Career Services provides resources for exploring career options, discovering job opportunities, gaining experience, getting hired, and exploring graduate school. 

Disabled Students Program (DSP) works to ensure full participation and equal access to all school-related activities for students with disabilities.  

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) supports students by offering mentorship, academic advising, and social/cultural programs to help students succeed at UCSB. EOP primarily serves income-eligible and first-generation undergraduates, guiding them from enrollment through graduation and beyond.

Opening New Doors to Accelerating Success (ONDAS): The ONDAS Student Center supports first-generation and underrepresented students through mentoring, academic resources, and a space to connect with faculty, staff, and peers for personal and academic growth.

Office of International Student and Scholars (OISS) supports UCSB's global community by providing immigration services, cultural programs, and resources for international students, scholars, and faculty to help the university excel as a world-class research institution.

UCSB Campus Housing provides safe, welcoming communities where students can make friends, access resources, and engage in academic, social, and cultural activities to support their educational journey.

The Office of the Ombuds offers confidential consultation for faculty, staff, students, and others with campus-related concerns. They can help address workplace issues, conflicts, academic questions, and policy matters at any stage.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers timely, culturally sensitive mental health services to all registered UCSB students. Whether you need help with personal concerns, stress, or building confidence, CAPS is here to support you.

Student Basic Needs was developed to provide a centralized source of information regarding healthy and sustainable food options for UCSB students. It is also a good resource for housing, financial, well-being, technology, and academic resources.

Campus, Advocacy, Resources, and Education (CARE) is UC Santa Barbara’s confidential advocacy and education office for interpersonal violence (sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking). CARE offers free and confidential services for students, staff, faculty, alumni, community members, and friends/loved ones impacted interpersonal and gender-based violence. Use 805-893-4613 to access the 24-hour advocacy line.

 

UCSB Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is the place to go for any financial aid questions, including FAFSA, work-study programs, scholarship applications, and keeping up-to-date with important deadlines. Use their virtual line to speak with a Financial Aid advisor.

Business & Financial Services (BARC) is the UCSB campus centralized receivable system. This computerized system produces a monthly statement for any amounts owed to the university, such as registration fees, campus housing charges, phone bills, library fines, and student health services, to name a few. Log into MyBARC with your student ID and password to access your personal account information.

The Financial Crisis Response Team exists to assist students who are facing a financial crisis or urgent financial need. This effort aims to assist undergraduate and graduate students who are facing significant financial difficulties that jeopardize their path to graduation. If you are experiencing a financial or housing crisis, email the Financial Crisis Response Team (FCRT) at financialcrisis@sa.ucsb.edu.

UCSB Associated Students offers an emergency, interest-free loan in the amount of either $200, $400 or $600 for an academic quarter to any enrolled students. There is a processing fee of $5 and a $10 processing/assessment fee by BARC billing. The student must repay the loan within 30 days.

The Daily Nexus is the go-to source to stay current with all things involving UCSB’s campus and Isla Vista. The Daily Nexus offer positions for writers, photographers, artists, and any creative souls interested in immersing themselves in culture and information. It is a fast-paced environment for aspiring journalists, as well as a learning opportunity for students who want to explore the stories that define our community.
