REPAIR | SUSTAIN | IMPROVE

Students in the Honors Program must complete 40 hours of volunteer service. To earn community service hours, students must engage in unpaid activities that don't offer academic credit. The Honors Program defines community service as an activity that repairs, sustains, or improves the university community or the larger community. Community service may be completed outside the Santa Barbara community, including while studying abroad. Upper-class Honors students can also serve as Honors Mentors to Honors freshmen and earn service hours. Invitations are emailed in August for the upcoming year.

Find a place to serve.

Community service opportunities are publicized at the Community Affairs Board (CAB), UCen 2523, and will be sent out to the Honors listserv. The links below can be great places to start brainstorming ideas. Keep in mind, service must be reflective of Honors values of repairing, sustaining, or improving the fabric of the university or the larger community.

Log your service hours.

Honors Students can log their community service hours using the Community Service Log link. When submitting, include the name and email of someone who can verify your service.

If your service spans multiple sessions, we ask that you track your total hours and submit them as one entry once the activity is complete. For instance, if you volunteer at an assisted living center over several months, record your hours and submit them all at once at the end.
